Parsley as a sometimes snack for rabbits; keep servings tiny.

Parsley

Petroselinum crispum

Guideline: Sometimes Treats

Type: Herbs

Other Names: Flat-leaf parsley, curly parsley, Petroselinum

Parsley comes from the Apiaceae family. It is bright green in color and because it is a biennial plant, it takes two years for it to finish its biological life cycle. In the first year it has lots of leaflets, but in the second year they become sparser with a flat top.

Often Mistaken For

Is Parsley item toxic?

Not poisonous in small treat amounts, but parsley is high in calcium and should not replace hay or main greens. Too much can unbalance the diet.

Should I feed my pet Parsley?

Yes—a small amount of fresh parsley can be an occasional treat for rabbits and guinea pigs; offer chinchillas even less and introduce slowly.

How much can I feed them?

Offer a small sprig once or twice a week—not daily large bunches. Rotate with other approved herbs and keep hay unlimited.
