Elderberry is generally used for a homeopathic medicine when cooked for easing symptoms like back pain, cramps, sinus inflammation, and being used for cold and flu relief. As a raw substance, it is actually quite poisonous in humans and animals alike. The plant contains white flowers, oblong and sawtooth shaped leaves, and berries that vary in color from black to deep blue-purple and red.

Is Elderberry item toxic?

Yes. Raw elderberry foliage, stems, roots, and unripe or raw berries are toxic to rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas because of cyanogenic glycosides and related compounds. Cooked human products are still inappropriate for pets.

Should I feed my pet Elderberry?

No. Do not feed raw elderberry plant parts or berries to rabbits, guinea pigs, or chinchillas—even if you use elder products at home.

How much can I feed them?
