Often Mistaken For

Is Grapes item toxic?

Not a classic toxin like tree nuts, but very high in sugar. Large amounts can upset digestion in rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas and may trigger diarrhea or stomach pain.

Should I feed my pet Grapes?

Only as a rare treat for rabbits, in tiny portions, and never as a hay or pellet substitute. Most guinea pigs and chinchillas do better without grapes because of the sugar load—ask your veterinarian if you are unsure.

How much can I feed them?

If you offer grapes to a rabbit at all, keep it to one or two small grapes on occasion, not daily. Stop and call your veterinarian if you see soft stool, bloating, or a sudden drop in hay appetite after any fruit treat.
