Sweetheart Ivy

Hoya kerrii

Guideline: Poisonous

Type: Outdoor Plants

Other Names: Hart Ivy, sweetheart ivy, Hoya hearts

Sweetheart Ivy Hoya kerrii is a pretty outdoor plant known for its heart-shaped leaves that give it a romantic vibe. It does well outside in spots with bright indirect light and well-drained soil making it a favorite for gardens or patios. This plant though is poisonous so you need to handle it with care. If rabbits or small animals like cats and dogs chew on it they could get sick from the toxins in the leaves. For instance rabbits might end up with stomach pain vomiting or even more serious problems like trouble breathing if they eat too much. It's not safe for them to eat at all so don't offer any as a treat or let them nibble on it. Keep in mind that while some folks might think about using parts of the plant in creative ways experts strongly advise against feeding it to pets or small wildlife. Always place it where curious animals can't reach and if you suspect an animal has eaten some contact a vet right away for help.
