The Japanese Yew is an evergreen tree or large shrub native to Japan, Korea, and China. The leaves resemble thin, flat pine needles, with red berries. This plant is known to be very toxic.
For Your Pet: The entire Japanese Yew is very toxic. This plant, especially the berries, contain chemicals called taxine alkaloids. Cardiac arrest, convulsions, and respiratory failure are a few but very lethal effects. It is poisonous to many animals including dogs, cats, pigs, sheep, cows, horses, and more. If your rabbit, guinea pig, chinchilla, or other small pet ingest this plant, it is imperative to see an emergency vet.
Warning: Keep your pet away from Japanese Yew as it can cause severe illness and possible death.
