Lemons are a yellow fruit with a juicy citric center and a zesty and bitter peel. About 6 percent of the juice of a lemon is citric acid, giving it its sour taste. While humans use lemon commonly for cooking and baking, your small pets should never eat lemon.

Is Lemon item toxic?

Lemon is not a classic poison like a landscape shrub, but citric acid and oils can irritate rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas and trigger painful GI upset. Treat as unsafe to feed on purpose.

Should I feed my pet Lemon?

No. Do not feed lemon or other citrus fruits to rabbits, guinea pigs, or chinchillas.

How much can I feed them?

Do not offer as food. If your pet ate citrus, watch for pain, drooling, or diarrhea and call your veterinarian if signs are strong or lasting.
