Lychee and rabbit stomachs do not belong together—never feed.

Lychee

Litchi chinensis

No—do not feed lychee to rabbits, guinea pigs, or chinchillas. The translucent flesh is very high in natural sugar, and the large brown seed is hard and unsafe if swallowed. Skip peel, dried fruit, juice, and syrup packs too, and keep unlimited grass hay as the main diet.

Guideline: Never Feed

Often Mistaken For

Is Lychee item toxic?

Ripe lychee flesh is not classed as a classic poison like some plants, but it is a poor choice for rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas because of high sugar. The large seed is unsafe—hard, a blockage risk, and not food. Unripe fruit and plant parts are also best kept away from the pen.

Should I feed my pet Lychee?

No. Do not feed lychee to rabbits, guinea pigs, or chinchillas.

How much can I feed them?

Do not offer as food. If your pet ate lychee flesh or especially the seed, contact your veterinarian or a pet poison hotline.
