Often Mistaken For

Is Melon item toxic?

The ripe flesh is not toxic in tiny portions, but melon is high in sugar and water. Too much can trigger diarrhea, gas, or appetite problems in rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas. Seeds, rinds, and spoiled fruit should be avoided.

Should I feed my pet Melon?

Only as an occasional treat after hay and leafy greens are established. Skip melon entirely if your pet has sensitive digestion or is overweight.

How much can I feed them?

Offer a thumbnail-sized cube of ripe flesh, no seeds or rind, no more than once or twice a week. Use the linked calculator to keep total treats small, and stop if stool softens.
