North American pawpaw (Asimina triloba) is a soft, custardy fruit with green to yellow skin and large brown seeds. It is not the same plant as tropical papaya (Carica papaya), though some regions also call papaya “pawpaw.”

Is Pawpaw item toxic?

Ripe pawpaw flesh is not a classic plant poison for rabbits, guinea pigs, or chinchillas in tiny portions. Seeds and plant parts contain stronger compounds and must stay out of the bowl. Too much fruit risks excess sugar and GI upset.
