Precatory Bean
Abrus precatorius
Precatory bean, also called rosary pea, is a climbing vine with striking red-and-black seeds used in jewelry and crafts. Those seeds contain abrin, one of the most dangerous plant toxins for mammals. A single chewed bean can cause vomiting, liver failure, and death in rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas. Keep necklaces, craft beads, and yard vines away from pets, and contact your vet or a pet poison hotline immediately if a seed is swallowed or chewed.
