Purple thornapple, also known as jimsonweed, is a species of flowering plant in the nightshade family. This plant stands out with is foul-smelling, trumpet-shaped, pale purple or white flowers, white roots and stem, and toothed leaves. This plant also has seed capsules with many thorns surrounding the outside, with many small black seeds inside.
For Your Pet: Purple thornapple contains many harmful tropane alkaloids which cause severe psychoactive effects on humans and animals. In humans, symptoms include delirium, hallucinations, tachycardia, cardiac arrest, and other serious problems, which is safe to assume this plant can have amplified effects on rabbits and other small pets.
Warning: Purple thornapple is highly toxic to you and your pet. Do not feed purple thornapple to your rabbit or other small animal as it can cause serious illness and possible death.
