Rice is a grain that is the seed of the grass species Oryza sativa. As for human consumption, it is a staple food in over half the world’s population, and it is the third largest agricultural commodity in production, after sugarcane and maize. Rice and other grains are not good for your rabbit though.

Is Rice item toxic?

Rice is not a classic toxin like a shrub, but it is unsafe to feed rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas. Grain loads can cause painful bloat and slow or stop the gut (GI stasis), which can be life-threatening.

Should I feed my pet Rice?

No. Do not feed rice or other grains to rabbits, guinea pigs, or chinchillas.

How much can I feed them?

Do not offer as food. If your pet ate rice, contact your veterinarian if they seem bloated, in pain, or not eating.
