Do not let rabbits eat Thornapple; it is poisonous.

Thornapple

Datura stramonium

Guideline: Poisonous

Type: Outdoor Plants

Thornapple, also known as jimsonweed, is a species of flowering plant in the nightshade family. This plant stands out with foul-smelling, trumpet-shaped, pale purple or white flowers, white roots and stem, and toothed leaves. Jimsonweed also has seed capsules with many thorns surrounding the outside, with many small black seeds inside.

For Your Pet: Thornapple contains tropane alkaloids that cause severe psychoactive effects in humans and animals. In humans, symptoms include delirium, hallucinations, tachycardia, cardiac arrest, and other serious problems; rabbits and other small pets are at high risk from even small amounts.

Warning: Thornapple is highly toxic to you and your pet. Do not feed Thornapple to your rabbit or other small animal as it can cause serious illness and possible death.

Resources: If you believe that your pet has been poisoned immediately call your vet or one of the animal poison control hotlines on this list.
