Watermelon rinds as bunny treat

Watermelon rinds

Citrullus lanatus

Guideline: Sometimes Treats

Type: Fruits

Watermelon is a flowering vine-like plant with a hard-exterior rind and a sweet juicy interior flesh. Watermelon, considered a special kind of berry, is cultivated with and without seeds. The rind is the smooth hard exterior of the watermelon.

For Your Pet: Watermelon and watermelon rind is safe for your small pets, but only as an occasional treat. Because watermelon is high in sugar, too much too often can cause stomach aches.

Warning: Only feed watermelon and watermelon rind to your rabbit occasionally. Be careful to not overfeed as it can lead to a stomach ache. Watermelon should never replace any part of their daily diet of hay.
