Yogurt: Unsafe for rabbits and pets.

Yogurt

Bos taurus

Guideline: Never Feed

Type: Meats

Yogurt is a tangy creamy food made from bacterial fermentation of milk. Bacteria used for fermentation to make yogurt is called yogurt cultures. The specific bacteria for yogurt cultures are called Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. Bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus.

For Your Pet: While yogurt may be healthy and delicious for humans, it’s not something you want to feed your small pet. The bacteria used for yogurt is not natural in rabbits, and if it survives passage through the stomach, it can harm the intestines. Another side effect is that it can cause your rabbit to development rheumatoid-like lesions.

Warning: Yogurt is not necessarily poisonous to your rabbit, but you should never feed it to your pet. Yogurt and dairy products should never be fed to your rabbits or other small pets.
