Coarse Orchard Grass provides a strong balance of roughage and nutrition for rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas. Its larger seed heads, leaves, and stems make it coarser providing long strands that promote natural chewing behavior. It’s an important staple of your rabbit’s diet because it helps wear down their teeth. The long strand fibers also helps to keep your rabbit’s digestion regular and functioning properly.

Stop Wasting Time & Money On Bad Hay

Tired of wasting time picking through bad hay just to find the bits your rabbit, guinea pig, or chinchilla will actually eat?

  • We visually inspect and hand-pack every package of hay to ensure that you get fresh, green, fragrant hay of the highest quality.
  • Your hay is always hand-processed, never machine-cut, creating nice long strands and less small pieces.
  • You’ll no longer have to worry about your small pet suffering from irritated eyes or sneezing from excessive dust.
  • We preserve freshness by bagging all of our hay. This helps keep it from drying out or absorbing unwanted odors.

Why Hay Is Essential To A Small Pet Diet

Grass Hay is an important staple in the diet of rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas.

  • For rabbits 7 months and older and guinea pigs 6 months and older, grass hay should make up 80% of their diet.
  • For chinchillas older than a year, grass hay should make up 75% of their diet.

The constant foraging and grazing encouraged by hay helps to keep them physically active and mentally stimulated. It also helps to wear down their teeth while the long strand fiber helps to keep their digestion regular and functioning properly.

As Timothy Hay has a high fiber and low protein and calcium content, it can be fed free-choice to your rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and other small animals, and should be a mainstay of any small herbivore's diet

Free-choice feeding means that the hay is constantly available, and the animals can balance their own diet without increased risk of weight gain or digestion issues.

Annual Harvest Report & Fresh From The Hopper - How's The Hay Looking?

Small Pet's Guide to Hay Quality

Our Harvest Reports update yearly, and are a first glance and analysis of the newly harvested hay. This is what we are hoping (and anticipating) the rest of the year's hay will look like. Yet, nature's quirks make hay-growing and harvesting unique and can lead to a bit of unpredictability with every new batch of hay we receive. As new hay batches from this harvest comes in, typically every 4 to 6 weeks, we'll update you on any changes through our Fresh From The Hopper.

The employees at rabbit hole hay are outstanding!

The person who helped me when I had ran out of hay was so kind and said she would drop my order in the mail on the very day that I called. She was awesome and volunteered to do same. Thank you so much for your willingness to go the extra mile. I love you guys for saving my bunnies!!!!!! Lynn Messer

Best hay I have found!

After some traumatic (read: tens of thousands in vet bills) experiences with dental disease in rabbits, I am very particular with making sure my buns are consistently eating hay. The best way I’ve found is to get high quality hay. RHH is the best I’ve found. Honestly each variety works for them. They love the soft or hard most but I prefer to be cautious and get course which they still love. They consistently eat it well. So much so that even when bills are tight and I was offered some local (but lower quality) hay, my husband said we should focus on RHH to not take chances. I encourage anyone trying to get a picky bun to eat hay to try high quality hay like RHH. The difference between this and pet store hay is miles apart.

What is happening?? I'm Feeding BUNNIES, not Smoking It.

Unbelievable amount of sawdust, or grass dust. Bunnies forage. That means they sniff deep in the hay looking for the next best piece. I can't just throw the flake down. I pull out all the long normal pieces and shake all the dust and little pieces off, into the bag. The flakes pulled apart revealing nothing but handfuls, and pints of extra fine grass dust and tobacco sized pieces. This was actually one box prior to the last one shipped. I can't bring myself to open the next box.

Customer service has always been wonderful. But I just miss the days where minced grass was not in my hay orders.

Good Quality Orchard Grass

The 24 oz bag of course Orchard Grass I bought contains a lot of long strands of grass. I give our rabbit a mix of 1st cut Timothy, 2nd cut Timothy, and course Orchard Grass. She always eats the Orchard Grass first.
