Our Mountain Grass is a healthy blend of grasses that wild rabbits would naturally feed on and it has the fiber required for keeping up their dental and digestive health. No herbicides or pesticides are used on it, so it’s truly an all-natural product. Mountain Grass contains a variety of textures and colors, which your small pet will enjoy. Typically it has leaves that are fine and coarse in texture with almost no stems.

Stop Wasting Time & Money On Bad Hay

Tired of wasting time picking through bad hay just to find the bits your rabbit, guinea pig, or chinchilla will actually eat?

  • We visually inspect and hand-pack every package of hay to ensure that you get fresh, green, fragrant hay of the highest quality.
  • Your hay is always hand-processed, never machine-cut, creating nice long strands and less small pieces.
  • You’ll no longer have to worry about your small pet suffering from irritated eyes or sneezing from excessive dust.
  • We preserve freshness by bagging all of our hay. This helps keep it from drying out or absorbing unwanted odors.

Why Hay Is Essential To A Small Pet Diet

Grass Hay is an important staple in the diet of rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas.

  • For rabbits 7 months and older and guinea pigs 6 months and older, grass hay should make up 80% of their diet.
  • For chinchillas older than a year, grass hay should make up 75% of their diet.

The constant foraging and grazing encouraged by hay helps to keep them physically active and mentally stimulated. It also helps to wear down their teeth while the long strand fiber helps to keep their digestion regular and functioning properly.

As Timothy Hay has a high fiber and low protein and calcium content, it can be fed free-choice to your rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and other small animals, and should be a mainstay of any small herbivore's diet

Free-choice feeding means that the hay is constantly available, and the animals can balance their own diet without increased risk of weight gain or digestion issues.

Annual Harvest Report & Fresh From The Hopper - How's The Hay Looking?

Small Pet's Guide to Hay Quality

Our Harvest Reports update yearly, and are a first glance and analysis of the newly harvested hay. This is what we are hoping (and anticipating) the rest of the year's hay will look like. Yet, nature's quirks make hay-growing and harvesting unique and can lead to a bit of unpredictability with every new batch of hay we receive. As new hay batches from this harvest comes in, typically every 4 to 6 weeks, we'll update you on any changes through our Fresh From The Hopper.

Rabbit hole 24oz. mountain grass

I love, love, love Rabbit hole hay company, the hay is FRESH, FULL OF GREEN GOODNESS, more so than other hays, my hay bucket knows the amount of chlorophyll that's contained in it, it's much more nutrient dense by the look of the green contained in the actual stem and leaf of the hay, which is WHY my GUINEA pigs eat much more of it! The mountain grass was nice, although there were quite a bit of Brown leaves, this was my first time buying this type of grass hay, it was a bit stem then I would have liked, but then I've never used brome hay, so maybe that's just the type of grass. It was quite fresh, and my GUINEA pigs did nibble quite a bit. I'm used to using the medium Timothy hay, and the course or soft orchard. Both my sows are now 7 and a half, quite old for GUINEA pigs, and I'm sure the right diet has played a big part in that. Thanks Rabbit hole!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful review, Susan! We're thrilled to hear your guinea pigs are enjoying the green goodness of our hay. It's great to know that our product contributes to their long lives! 😄 We're sorry you encountered a few brown leaves and found the hay a bit stemmy; we’ll keep your feedback in mind. If you ever have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out. Thanks again for your support!

No for my rabbits

Speedy shipment. The hay didn’t have much aroma and was very coarse with lots of stems. My rabbits won’t eat it so I’m saving it to give to the wild bunnies during the winter. I don’t think they’ll be near as picky

Thanks for your feedback, Ann. Happy to hear the shipment was speedy, but I'm sorry the hay didn't meet your rabbits' tastes. We strive to provide the best for your pets, so if you need assistance or a replacement, please reach out to us at (530) 763-6900 or support@rabbitholehay.com. Thank you for sharing with the wild bunnies! ✨
