  • Balanced texture — Softer than coarse, more roughage than soft; a middle-ground chew.
  • Hand-packed fresh — Packed by hand for fresh hay with minimal dust.
  • High fiber, naturally lower protein — Supports healthy digestion and steady weight in a grass-hay diet.
  • Single ingredient — 100% timothy hay with no fillers or additives.
  • Made for small herbivores — Rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and similar pets.
Ultra Premium Medium Timothy Hay sits between our Soft and Coarse cuts—thinner stems and broader leaves than Coarse, with a bit more chew than Soft. Most bags come from a farmer's second harvest, or an especially soft first harvest.
It's a solid everyday choice for adult rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas—enough roughage for dental wear without asking a lot from smaller or older teeth.
If your pet has struggled with coarser hay, this cut is a good middle step before Soft Timothy. It matches what many shoppers call "second cut" texture, though harvest timing varies, so we grade every batch to that medium standard.
We hand-pack every bag for freshness with minimal dust.

Harvest & Quality

Ultra Premium Medium Timothy Hay sits between our Soft and Coarse cuts—thinner stems and broader leaves than Coarse, with a bit more chew than Soft—for rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and other small herbivores.

It matches what many shoppers mean when they ask for "second cut": broader leaves and shorter seed heads than a first harvest. Harvest timing varies, so we grade each batch to our medium standard instead of promising a specific cutting.

Compared with our coarse timothy, this cut is gentler on teeth; compared with our soft timothy, it keeps a bit more roughage for dental wear.

Store hay in a cool, dry place with good airflow. A breathable bag or bin in a closet, pantry, or garage usually works well.

Avoid keeping hay sealed in plastic long-term; trapped moisture can lead to mold. If hay smells musty, feels damp, or looks unusually dusty or discolored, discard it and open a fresh bag.

Keep grass hay available at all times. Most healthy adult herbivores can eat timothy free-choice alongside fresh water.

For adult rabbits 7 months and older and guinea pigs 6 months and older, grass hay should make up at least 80% of the diet. For chinchillas older than 1 year, aim for at least 75% grass hay.

When switching hays, mix the old and new hay over 7–14 days and watch appetite and droppings. Pellets and treats are supplemental.

We hand-pack every bag and inspect hay for freshness with minimal dust. Harvest reports give a season-level look at what we're sourcing; individual batches can vary as new hay arrives, typically every 4–6 weeks.

Small Pet's Guide to Hay Quality

Annual Harvest Report & Fresh From The Hopper - How's The Hay Looking?

Our harvest reports give a first look at each year's newly harvested medium timothy and what we expect from the rest of the season. Nature still shifts batch to batch, so color and texture can vary slightly between deliveries.

When new hay arrives, typically every 4–6 weeks, we share updates through Fresh From The Hopper. See the current Medium Timothy harvest report for analysis and photos.
